Summary

Description
English: US Postage stamp depicting General Tadeusz Kościuszko
The United States government continued its practice of recognizing foreigners who aided American colonies in the American Revolultion when on October 13, 1933 it issued a blue 5-cent postage stamp honoring General Kosciuszko (1746-1817) of Poland. The stamp was issued on the 150th anniversary of Kosciusko's naturalization as an American citizen. The stamp depicts an engraving modeled after the statue of the uniformed general that sits in Lafayette Park in the Washington DC. Serving under George Washington Kosciusko fought in several key battles and is noted for his heroic efforts in the American Revolution. He is also widely known for his designing and engineering of the fortifications at West Point.
